Frequently asked questions
How do you convert Celsius to Fahrenheit?
Use the formula °F = °C × 9/5 + 32. The converter at the top of this page does it as you type, and the reference table below lists the conversions people look up most often. Each row links to a page showing the full calculation for that temperature.
Why is the Celsius to Fahrenheit formula not a simple multiplication?
The two scales disagree on both where zero sits and how large one degree is. A Fahrenheit degree covers 5/9 as much temperature change as a Celsius degree, and the scales are offset by 32 degrees at the freezing point of water. A conversion therefore needs both a scaling step and an offset step.
How many decimal places does the result show?
Results are rounded to 2 decimal places. For everyday use — cooking, weather, checking a thermometer — rounding to a whole number is fine. Each value page shows the full arithmetic if you need to see exactly where the figure comes from.
